Opinion by Chris Arps
Anyone that knows me knows I am a huge football fan and even bigger Dallas Cowboys fan. Until last season, I had never missed a football season sindenI started the following football at seven years old.
I boycotted the season because of all the wokeness going on on and off the field. As I’ve said a million times, I have no problem with what activities professional athletes engage in on their own time. The only game I watched last season was the Super Bowl because of the marquis showdown between the two-star quarterbacks.
This year I was going to give the NFL another chance until they recently announced that they would play the “Black National Anthem” at the start of every game. I have no problem with the song and I think it’s appropriate to play in certain settings. I don’t believe this is the right setting because its playing is just going to cause more division.
Some will argue that this nation already has a national anthem and that song should be played. Others will argue this is a diverse nation with many different viewpoints, and in a league that is 70% black, okaying the black national anthem should be no problem. I’m just sick of sport being taken over by political activism.
There is a feel-good story that will have me watching an NFL event this weekend and that is the enshrinement of Isaac Bruce into the NFL Hall of Fame. He’s been passed over a couple of times but this weekend he will finally get his good jacket and his bust in Canton. Well deserved #88 and Greatest Show on Turf team member Isaac Bruce!!
