As things get worse for average Americans almost daily, the Biden administration should be looking for ways to combat inflation and ease the pain at the gas pump — but instead, they appear to have doubled down on gaslighting the people.
Every day, another administration official is standing behind a lectern or in front of a gaggle of reporters — and they all keep saying the same things: inflation is tough, but we’re not in a recession, and Putin’s Price Hike is the reason for the high gas prices.
But inflation was a problem over a year ago — in fact, the Janet Yellen quote claiming that inflation was “transitory” just marked its first birthday. And gas prices began to rise within days of Biden’s inauguration.
So if inflation was not, as they claimed, “transitory,” why would anyone believe their new claims that the United States is not headed for — or already in — a recession?
And even as the White House attempts to distract from what many economists and average citizens can see every time they walk through the grocery store or pull into a gas station, the media trots out “experts” who lecture the American people about just how good they have it.
MSNBC spoke with a Washington Post reporter who said that most Americans were “not suffering as much as they think they are” — and then warned them that expressing their fears of a coming recession could “think” the worst into actually happening.
And as the main event (Biden) gets more and more disastrous for Democrats as the November midterms approach, the sideshow continues on Capitol Hill. A bipartisan (in name only) committee trots out coached witnesses and polished, produced sound bytes to make sure no one forgets just how awful January 6th was. Their goal? To encourage Democrats whose enthusiasm may be lagging to get out to the polls — and to convince moderates to stay home, believing that no matter how bad Biden is, the alternative would be worse.
But the only way they can sell any of this is to keep telling the American people that they can’t believe what they’re seeing and hearing — and paying through the nose for — every day.
